If I have an addiction, can I still be saved?
Yes. You can always receive salvation whether you are a good person
or a mass murderer. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates his own
love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
This, after we are told in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory
of God."
There is nothing you need to do to receive salvation other than surrender your
life to God, pray and ask Jesus to come live in your heart and to be the Lord of
your life. If we had to clean up our lives before we could receive salvation
then no one would ever get saved.
With God, salvation is a 'come as you are' invitation. Once you accept Jesus as your savior, only then will God begin to work in your life.
A dear friend's adopted son was a cold-blooded killer before he was saved, but now a prison evangelist.
Have come across several pastors and missionaries who were given up to addictions before they were saved. For some it was a very long journey, taking time to heal.
But once we turn our problems over to God, it becomes His problem.
